Lisbon is the capital and the largest city of Portugal, lying in the western Iberian Peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean, and the River Tagus.  Most of the Portuguese expeditions of the Age of Discovery left from Lisbon during the 14th and 15th centuries. Today it is a city of contrasts and one of the greatest cultural center of Europe.

Real Estate in Portugal

 Real Estate in Portugal:
  • A property similar to a house in the South of France at Portuguese prices. Luxury real estate properties at very competitive prices.

  • A property similar as a house in Spain, but with beautiful landscapes and seaside areas much less developed, thanks to State preservation programs.

  • Excellent building quality and craftsmanship.

  • Some excellent deals to be made thanks to the market’s lack of liquidity.

  • Very low risk of mid-term devaluation as Portugal did not experience any financial bubble.

  • A legal system that protects the Buyers and regulates the market.

Where to get information?

Travel books and magazines, real estate Fairs, and of course the internet.

In Europe, several Real Estate Fairs are organized, such as the yearly Portuguese Real Estate Fair in Paris, where we participate each year, and where you can find all the information and documents you need through specialized real estate agents, legal firms and banks. Look for such Fairs in your country.

 Real Estate Lawyers

We recommend that all our clients use a specialized Real Estate Lawyer, whether from their country or from Portugal.

Many Portuguese real estate issues may be difficult to understand, from a fiscal or legal standpoint, without a deep understanding of the subject. A lawyer will help you through each step of your project until the final closing at the Notary (a local profession which handles all real estate matters and other personal legal matters, working for the Government). An appointment will cost you approximately 500 to 600€.

Portuguese banks (BCP Milléminum,Caixa Géral, BPI, Novo Banco..) are often used by foreigners who wish to spend their retirement in Portugal, and who are looking for a future main or second home. The financing steps are of course mastered by those banks and some precious information and advice will be given to you during the study of the financing agreement.

Also, as Portugal went through an important financial crisis in the last few years (2008-2012), a lot of real estate properties were foreclosed and many Banks can offer you some great properties at low prices.
